To make voting for best Home developer in our Alphazone4 PlayStation Home Awards a bit easier we decided to refresh your memory with some Developer Spotlights. First up nDreams!
nDreams was set up in 2007 by Patrick O’Luanaigh, the former Creative Director of Eidos. And has grown since to be loved by PlayStation Home fans from Europe to America. Their first major title and release within Home was Xi. Which was the first ever console-based Alternate Reality Game and had users searching for clues all over the place. Starting the hype with “jess are you there? Xi is almost ready”, a simple message in the PDA, where over time more clues appeared and backing it up with mysterious videos all over the main spaces.
Leading up to the 23rd of March when the strange Xi symbol turned on and teleported you to The Xi Hub. The central main space where users received daily updates and tasks following the story of AlphaAFK. Xi had a twelve week course and received over 4 million visits; with over 650.000 users taking part in the quest of finding Jess and figuring out what Xi was. The Xi spaces showed users some things that where never seen before in Home, like the use of the sixaxis for the Maximum Tilt mini-game and the teamwork required for the Mazes. Not to mention it showed what Home was intended for, bringing users together.
nDreams recently brought us space overhauls like the Fat Princess Event Landing and the Gamescom Presentation Podium. But most importantly they brought Europe the first Home apartment with a mini-game. The Pirate Galleon is a fierce battleship that comes with a cannon mini-game and 4 rewards to win. It also comes with it’s own musical tiki bar.
As they recently said in their letter to their stakeholders; “We have more innovative spaces and virtual items in development and weʼre determined to continue to push the bar in terms of what is possible in Home.” We, for one, can’t wait to see what else nDreams has to offer.
